World mapDesignated representatives of the IAEA-fostered regional networks met in Vienna from 27 June to 1 July 2016. AFRA Network for Education in Science and Technology (AFRA-NEST), the Asian Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (ANENT), the Latin American Network for Education in Nuclear Technology (LANENT) and the Regional Network for Education and Training in Nuclear Technology (STAR-NET), as well as other regional and national networks for nuclear education participated in the workshop. The STAR-NET was represented by Dr Helena Zhivitskaya, Scientific Secretary of STAR-NET and Prof. Andrei Kosilov, Managing Director.

More then 30 participants from 23 countries reviewed common challenges faced by the regional and national networks for nuclear education and discuss potential synergetic solutions. They also provided an assessment of the IAEA’s role in further supporting high quality, sustainable nuclear education, and in strengthening collaboration among the relevant networks.

The workshop also included topical sessions on e-learning, and on outreach activities undertaken by Universities to support nuclear and STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education. Presentations given by the participants and associated discussions supported the fulfillment of the Workshop objectives.
