In June 2019 the Collaboration Agreement between the Regional Network for Education and Training in Nuclear Technology “STAR-NET” and the TU-Wien (Technical University Vienna) Atominstitut was signed by Univ. Prof. Dipl.-Phys. Dr.rer.nat Thorsten Schumm and Dr. Helena Zhivitskaya, Vice President of the STAR-NET.

Recognizing that preserving and enhancing Nuclear Knowledge involves both education and training for succession planning and the preservation or growth of existing knowledge in nuclear science and technology, and acknowledging the useful role of international cooperation in facilitating exchanges of information and experience, as well as in implementing actions to help addressing common issues STAR-NET and TU-Wien Atominstitut have reached an understanding on the following modalities of cooperation in the area of managing nuclear knowledge and training:
- Collaboration in initiatives and efforts in nuclear education and training including the joint workshops, fellowships programmes, training courses and other educational and public activities on different aspects of peaceful use of nuclear energy including the training at of the TRIGA Mark II reactor; and
- Collaboration in the implementation of the international research projects on nuclear technology and education, public acceptance and knowledge management including development of innovative and modern educational technologies in nuclear education.

TU-Wien Atominstitut is dedicated to broad range of research and education ranging from very fundamental questions in nuclear and particle physics to neutron-, atomic-, quantum-physics and quantum optics to radiation- and reactor physics to applied tasks such as environmental monitoring, radiation protection or for example the radiation resistance of modern materials providing specialized training and services.

The Regional Network STAR-NET is established to promote, manage and preserve nuclear knowledge and to ensure the continued availability of talented and qualified human resources in the nuclear field in the countries, which educational organizations participate in this network, and to enhance the quality of the human resources for safe and sustainable use of nuclear technology.
