On April 23, 2025, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) hosted an important international forum dedicated to the development of infrastructure necessary for the implementation of the nuclear energy program. The Forum was organized by the EKTU in cooperation with the IAEA and the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan with the support of the regional nuclear education network STAR-NET.

The main goal of the forum was to create and improve modern educational programs for the training of qualified specialists capable of ensuring the safe and efficient operation of nuclear power plants. The initiative was implemented within the framework of joint projects of the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the IAEA — ” Expert Mission to strengthen the National Capabilities for Education and Training to support the NPP Programme” and ” Supporting the Development of Infrastructure for the Introduction of the Nuclear Power Programme (Phase 3)”.

During the event, a meaningful exchange of views took place on the development of educational, research, technological and human resources in the field of nuclear energy. The participants discussed modern approaches to education, the integration of new technologies and digital solutions, ways to improve higher education in Kazakhstan, and issues of international cooperation to provide qualified national personnel for existing and future nuclear technology programs.

The forum brought together leading national and foreign experts, representatives of educational institutions, energy companies, international organizations and regulatory authorities: the IAEA, the Ministry of Energy of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the National Nuclear Center of Kazakhstan, the Institute of Nuclear Physics, the Ulba Metallurgical Plant, Ust-Kamenogorsk Fossil Power Plant, the United Energy Service Company, the Kazakhstan Nuclear Society, Shakarim University and universities, members of the STAR-NET network: EKTU and EKU, Kazakhstan; BSU and BNTU, Belarus; NRNU MEPhI and NNSTU, Russia.
